New public charging points in Maastricht

Vattenfall InCharge will install approximately 1,000 new public charging points in Maastricht over the next 4 years (2024-2028). These charging points will be available to everyone at a low charging rate of 35.07 cents per kilowatt-hour. Starting next year, Vattenfall will start installing new charging points every February and August.

Charging points in Maastricht

There are currently around 400 public charging points in Maastricht. Vattenfall InCharge will add approximately 1,000 new charging points in areas with high demand for electric charging. If the charging points in a certain area are used frequently and for long periods of time, additional charging points may be installed.

The new charging points aim to ensure there are always enough charging facilities. The goal is to have a public charging point within walking distance everywhere in Maastricht, with a maximum walking distance of approximately 300 metres

The new charging points will feature screens displaying price and charging information. During peak times on the power grid, the charging speed of the new points will temporarily decrease to optimise the use of the grid without overloading it. This is part of the Smart Charging for Everyone programme by the National Charging Infrastructure Agenda (Nationale Agenda Laadinfrastructuur, NAL).

Partnership

For the installation and use of the charging stations, Maastricht is partnering with the provinces of Limburg and North Brabant, along with the municipalities in these regions, under a collective concession.

Community involvement

Residents of Maastricht will have the opportunity to provide input in September 2024. Residents can comment on the proposed locations for the new charging points based on the demand for electric charging. Traffic safety will also be considered. There will be a new opportunity for residents to provide input every 6 months. Further information will follow.
