Emergency roadworks on Brusselsestraat, Capucijnenstraat and Grote Gracht
From 13 to 20 November, emergency roadworks will take place on Brusselsestraat, Capucijnenstraat and Grote Gracht. These works will cause traffic disruptions. Some tasks will be combined to reduce the inconvenience, which will extend the duration but avoid the need for repeated closures. Below is an overview of the works, the reasons behind them and the impact on traffic.
Planned works
Several tasks are scheduled for the week:
Emergency sewer repair
A hole has appeared in the sewer on Brusselsestraat, causing a sinkhole near Kindcentrum Aloysius. To prevent further damage and avoid risks, the sewer and the road subsidence will be repaired.
Raised crossing installation
Alongside the repairs on Brusselsestraat, a raised crossing will be installed nearby. Originally planned for early 2025, this crossing aims to slow down traffic, creating a safer crossing point, especially for children from Kindcentrum Aloysius.
Traffic detours and disruptions
Brusselsestraat will be closed to cars and bikes during the work, with detours provided accordingly. Traffic controllers will be on site, but pedestrians can still use Brusselsestraat. Below is a summary of measures for each type of road user.
Cyclists
Cyclists will need to take a short detour via Herdenkingsplein and Kommel, with clear signage in place.
Cars and standard trucks
Cars and standard trucks coming from Kommel can exit the city centre via the following route: Keizer Karelplein > Statenstraat/Helmstraat > Capucijnenstraat > Lindenkruis > Statensingel. The detour will be indicated by signs.
On 18, 19, and 20 November, a different route will be used as a high-lift platform will be on Capucijnenstraat for roof works, and sewer connections on Grote Gracht will be renewed. During these days, traffic will be diverted via Keizer Karelplein > Statenstraat > Capucijnenstraat > Hoogfrankrijk > Laagfrankrijk > Statensingel, with detour signs and traffic controllers in place.
Heavy goods vehicles
Heavy goods vehicles, such as supply trucks and vehicles for the Magisch Maastricht setup, will be directed from Helmstraat to the Markt and Boschstraat, with traffic controllers assisting in this exceptional case.
