Boschpoort (high-rise)

The waste collection test is starting on 1 June 2017! We started preparing for this at the end of 2016 when residents' panels developed two different variants which neighbourhood residents were able to choose from. We will be test running the chosen variant for six months from 1 June. Residents will be receiving a starter pack (letter plus waste collection calendar) around 18 May 2017.

Waste Collection Test 1 June – 30 November 2017

The waste collection process in Boschpoort (for high-rise residential buildings) will change as follows:

1.       Fruit and vegetable waste is to be disposed of in a separate 10-litre or 25-litre container, which the municipality will collect from your home once a week. Small amounts of organic and garden waste can be disposed of in the same container.

2.       Waste nappies and incontinence products are to be disposed of in separate 10-litre or 25-litre containers, which the municipality will collect from your home once a week.

3.       Textiles and small electric devices must be taken to the recycling point on Patoustraat (underground container).

4.       Bulky household waste must be taken to a recycling centre or can be collected from your home for a fee if you call the municipality to arrange this in advance. There is no change from the existing arrangement.

5.       Residual waste must be disposed of in a municipal residual waste bag which the municipality will collect from your home once every two weeks. The underground waste containers at the high-rise complexes will be closed for the duration of the test.

Your experience matters!

We will be working with a sounding board of residents during the test to discuss the new collection system. Do you want to share your experiences with us and be a part of this sounding board? You can sign up by e-mailing or calling 14 043.

It may take a while to get used to the new arrangement. However, we will do our best to make sure the transition is as quick and easy as possible. If you have any questions, or if there is something you are not happy about, then please check the frequently asked questions. If you still have no answer to your question, please e-mail or call 14 043.
