Information obligation on energy saving

The Environmental Management Activities Decree requires businesses and institutions (Environmental Management Act – Institutions) to save energy. These rules will be changing in 2019.

In addition to the existing energy saving obligation, there is now a new obligation to report on any completed energy-saving measures; the information obligation. This information obligation applies to Environmental Management Act-registered institutions that consume upwards of 50,000 kWh of electricity or 25,000 m³ of natural gas (or equivalent) per year.

Business and government aim to accelerate energy saving through this information obligation. This will help boost CO2 reduction in the Netherlands.
