Extract or official copy of civil status records

An extract or official copy from the Burgerlijke Stand (Civil Status Register) provides an overview of significant life events, such as birth, death, marriage or registered partnership, divorce, or termination of partnership. You can only obtain an extract or official copy from the municipality where the event occurred.

If you're a solicitor, barrister or institution in need of an official copy or extract, please refer to the Civil Status Register section for business providers (in Dutch only).

Online request

You can request the extract or official copy from the Civil Status Register online using your DigiD. You will then receive the extract or official copy by post as soon as possible. Note that you will not receive the document digitally.

For yourself or your child

Online, you can request an official copy or extract for yourself and for your child.

What is a civil status extract?

A civil status extract is a summary of major life events such as birth, marriage or registered partnership, divorce or partnership termination, and death. For instance, a death extract only provides the personal details of the deceased, along with the date and location of death, and does not include details of parents.

What is an official copy of a civil status record?

An official copy is a photocopy of the full record, bearing a stamp and signature from a Registrar of Civil Status.
