Residence permit, application
Are you coming to live, work and/or study in the Netherlands for longer than 3 months? If so, you will need a residence permit if you are neither a Dutch citizen nor a national of an EU country, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland.
If you come from an EU country, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland, you usually do not need a residence permit. This depends on your personal situation! When in doubt, contact the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) or check the conditions for applying for a residence permit for EU/EEA and Switzerland. You can find the conditions on the IND website.
British citizens
British citizens and/or family members of British citizens must apply for a residence permit if they intend to stay in the Netherlands for longer than 3 months. On 31 January 2020, the United Kingdom (UK) left the European Union (EU). The UK is therefore no longer part of the EU . This also applies to British citizens who resided in the Netherlands before 1 January 2021 and who have not (yet) made use of the Withdrawal Agreement.
When in doubt, contact the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) or read the Q&As on the IND website.
Applications via IND
You must apply for a residence permit through the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). More information about the application procedure and the conditions can be found on the IND website.
