Bulky waste

Bulky waste is waste that does not fit in a bin bag and is no longer suitable for reuse. Examples include a broken sofa, carpet or large pieces of non-white polystyrene. Bulky waste is ultimately incinerated. You can take your bulky household waste to a recycling centre yourself or arrange for the municipality to collect it. Check the conditions on this page.

Disposing of bulky waste

You can take bulky waste to a recycling centre yourself or arrange for the municipal collection service to collect it. You can book a bulky waste collection online using DigiD.

Items that are still usable can be taken to a reuse shop or collected free of charge by Kringloop Zuid.

Charges

  • Taking bulky waste to a recycling centre
    Check the rates and conditions per item if you want to bring your bulky waste to a recycling centre.
  • Bulky waste collection
    You pay both collection and processing charges when we collect your bulky waste. With a valid waste disposal pass, you do not have to pay the collection charge once a year. You will still have to pay the processing charges. These start at €22 for the first 100 kg. If you have more than 100 kg of waste, you will pay an additional €1.10 for every 5 kg

Low income and/or eligible for Wmo support?

Do you live in Maastricht and have a low income and/or have you been assessed as eligible for support under the Social Support Act (Wmo)? We want to make it easier for you to dispose of bulky waste. We are therefore running a trial.

From 1 July 2026 up to and including 30 June 2027, you can have up to 2 m³ of bulky waste collected completely free of charge once per calendar year.

  • The following conditions apply to bulky waste collection: 

    • You can only have bulky waste collected from your home if you have a valid waste disposal pass.
    • In Maastricht, we collect bulky waste every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You can book a collection online using DigiD. Your bulky waste will be collected within 2 weeks of your booking.
    • We can only collect waste from the address registered to your waste disposal pass.
    • You must be at home when we collect your bulky waste.
    • If you are not at home on the agreed date and time, you will lose your entitlement to one collection without collection charges.
    • Payment is by debit card only and must be made when we collect your bulky waste.
    • Put your bulky waste out by the roadside on the day of collection, preferably on your own property. Do not place it in the road.
    • You can put out no more than 2 m³ of bulky waste in total.
    • The bulky waste must come from a household. We do not collect commercial waste.

  • 2026 rates

    Collection charges

    The standard charge for collecting bulky waste is €29.80 per hour. 2 members of staff will collect your waste. Each is charged for 30 minutes. If it takes them longer than 30 minutes to collect your bulky waste, you will pay twice the standard charge.

    Please note: once a year, each household can have its bulky waste collected without paying the collection charge. You will then only pay the processing charges.

    Processing charges

    In addition to the collection charge, you pay the following processing charges:

    • €22.00: minimum charge for up to and including 100 kg of waste
    • €1.10: additional charge for every 5 kg over 100 kg

    You therefore pay €22.00 for the first 100 kg of waste. If you have more than 100 kg, you will pay an additional €1.10 for every 5 kg. You must pay the collection team by debit card when they collect your bulky waste.

    • Put your bulky waste out by the roadside on the day of collection, preferably on your own property.
    • Put it out around 30 minutes before the agreed collection time. This reduces the risk of other people adding their waste.
    • Keep loose pieces and parts together as much as possible. Dismantle furniture such as beds and cupboards. This takes up less space, allowing you to put out more bulky waste.
    • Divide your bulky waste into smaller, manageable packages. Put loose items in a box or bag so that our staff can pick them up easily.
    • Keep your bulky waste dry, particularly in bad weather. You could cover it with a plastic sheet, for example. Wet waste weighs more and will cost more to dispose of.
